Chapter 8

2,505 words

"Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass."

I had zero interest in my boss's brother.

Even if I did have needs, I had someone else in mind.

"I just got caught by your student. I'm back in my room now, still want to video chat?"

I lay on the bed texting Dr. James.

"Did you two... argue because of me?"

"Argue about what? You're overthinking it. He didn't even realize it was you."

"Oh."

The conversation was abruptly cut off.

No matter what messages I sent after that, James wouldn't reply.

I glared at my phone in frustration.

A few days later, Ryan also became extremely busy, getting off work at 2 AM every night.

I casually asked him: "Is Dr. James this busy too?"

"That old workaholic bachelor is always breathing down my neck, like he's got some grudge against me."

Ryan was so exhausted he was having paranoid delusions.

Since he knew James and I were friends, he asked me to put in a good word for him.

I sent James a message.

"Dr. James, it's one thing for you to be busy yourself, but can't you let your student get off work earlier?"

James was very cold.

"It's just work."

Two minutes later, he sent another message.

"I'm not picking on him."

I hadn't meant to stand up for Ryan, I was just looking for an excuse to chat with him.

"I know you're not that kind of person."

James: "..."

He replied with an ellipsis.

Half a month later, I went to the hospital for a checkup. My endocrine levels weren't great.

The female doctor asked about my sexual activity frequency over the past three months.

I helplessly held my head: "I kissed someone two weeks ago, does that count?"

Of course it didn't.

She tactfully suggested that getting some sleep would help.

Standing in the hospital elevator, I fell into deep thought.

Who should I sleep with?

The elevator doors slowly opened and a large group of doctors poured in, squeezing me into the back corner.

James stood at the front of the group of interns in his white coat, his expression serious and cold, exuding an impressive aura.

Ryan was right behind him, yawning with his eyes closed.

Compared to James's elite vibe, Ryan really didn't measure up.

My gaze traveled over the crowd, landing on the man's superior profile.

Wasn't this a case of the devil sending a pillow when I was feeling drowsy?

Last time he seemed interested in me.

I sent him a message.

"Dr. James, I got an appointment with you."

James: "But I'm not seeing patients today."

"I know. There's a special patient waiting outside your office."
